We just love this cat litter! It is very environmentally friendly, low maintenance and great value for money. Unlike may mineral-based cat litters, this product comes from a renewable source and it biodegrades too. It forms soft clumps when urinated upon so you can easily scoop out the soiled areas, and wait for it.......you can flush it down the toilet! There is no need to bag it and send it to landfill waste sites. We deep fill our tray because a cats natural instinct is to dig around and bury their faeces. All you need to do is scoop and refresh, then top up the volume. Only when the product starts to disintegrate and get dusty do we run the volume down and eventually empty the tray, clean and refill.

There are quite a number of different brands making degradable plastic bags now. Some are called poop bags, others you will find on the baby aisle of your local supermarket, called nappy sacks. Some are fragranced (which does tend to take the 'edge' off a smelly one), some are not, but all are much better for our environment because they degrade much more quickly than normal plastic. We always pick up after dogs so using these bags is safe, hygienic and environmentally much better for the planet. |

There are all kinds of automatic feeders available but some are better than others. We recommend simple construction because they tend to be more relaible and you don't need a degree to work out how to set it up. We do not recommend the digital Staywell Pet Pod (silver in colour) as it is complicated and often fails to open. The Catmate C50 is OK so long as your pets eat regularly, but the downside is that each time the lid turns round, it covers over any uneaten food.
Our favourite therefore is the Catmate C20 (pictured left). It takes one AA battery, is a cinch to clean and set up, and its simplicity delivers reliability. It has two separately timed sections with lift-up lids and room for an ice block underneath to help keep food fresh and cool. The lids and trays are dishwasher- friendly and you can set the timers for anything between 1-48 hours.

We often hear that cats only like to drink running water so they end up in the sink or bath licking the taps. Good water consumption is key to your cat's health so it is important to encourage them to drink regaularly, particularly if they mostly eat dry cat food. One solution is to give them a water fountain to drink from. The circulating water is filtered and makes it more appetising, and to some, more fun too!
Again, there are all kinds of water fountains available, but a lot of them are a nightmare to clean and they get slimy quickly too. We really like the CatIt Fresh & Clear model (pictured left) because it is easy to maintain and doesn't take up much space. CatIt have a fancier model with a dome, but it's much bigger and is tricky to clean, so we don't recommend that one.
