Part-Time Pet Carer (Sale/Stretford)

Applications will not be accepted from people who do not actually live in Sale or Stretford because the time and expenses involved in getting to and from these areas will outweigh earnings.

If you have any questions about working for Fed & Watered or about the application process, please email us by clicking here:

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must:

  • have a variety of experience in caring for domestic pets, whether paid or voluntary (unpaid)
  • Never have been banned from owning pets and will be CRB checked at the applicants expense (about £23)
  • Drive their own car or unmarked van to and from each assignment. Employees must not use bikes, public transport or taxis because they may need to take sick or injured pets to a vet in an emergency. Animal ambulances are rare and expensive, and they can take hours to arrive, so you must have your own vehicle and applicable driving licence.
  • Have a computer, an internet connection and printer at home (to access confidential and sensitive customer information in complete privacy)
  • Possess a working mobile phone which is carried with them at all times when working
  • Be able to read and write clearly and legibly, communicate politely and be well-presented
  • Be able to supply three references - employment, pet care and character - which will be validated without exception.

Hours of Work and Payment

  • In caring for our customers' pets, employees are required to make single or multiple visits each day to the customer's house where the animals are kept. Timings and a visiting schedule are discussed in advance. Assignments usually require employees to work (if only for 30mins) on consecutive days for an agreed period - sometimes a weekend, sometimes several weeks. If applicants are completely unavailable on any one day of the week, they will only be allocated to short assignments as we require one person to do all of the visits if possible. Nobody is forced to work any long and continuous duration without their agreement.
  • We pay a fee per visit rather than an hourly rate - this varies to account for the different tasks involved and how much time is needed to complete them. Fees are well above the equivalent National Minimum Wage and are discussed at the time an assignment is allocated.
  • Employees are paid once every calendar month on the 1st working day, direct into the employee's bank account.
  • All positions are part-time. Staff are only paid for the work that they do rather than on a fixed salary basis. Assignments are allocated when bookings are requested, so earnings will vary according to an employee's availability and current demand. Employees have control over the volume of work they decide to take on, but should be aware that there are seasonal highs and lows in demand.

Pet Care Experience

Although professional pet care experience and qualifications would be a distinct advantage, they are not necessary as we provide training. However, applicants must be able to demonstrate extensive pet care knowledge and experience either as a pet owner or on a paid or unpaid basis, and must have a responsible, caring attitude. All employees are trained and monitored, and must be willing to improve their pet care knowledge and learn additional skills at their employer's request.

How We Work

When a customer makes a booking request, we check staff availability in the area and then allocate the work as an assignment to someone who is close by. The employee is given access to the information they require to carry out the assignment by logging into PetNet, our management system, from their home computer. Training is given about how to complete all the tasks that are required. These include pet care, plant care and simple home security enhancement measures.
